Introduction

Arunachal Pradesh, a mysterious, magical and mystical land tucked away in the north eastern tip of India is one of the most compelling holiday destinations in India. Hill Stations

Tawang

Perched at a height of 11,155 ft near the Indo-Bhutan border, Tawang, the beautiful land of the Monpa tribes, is the most famous hill station in Arunachal Pradesh. Also the district headquarters of the Tawang district it is famous for its 400 year old Buddhist monastery, (Tawang Monastery) the biggest monastery in India. Though the journey is tough, steep with hairpin bends, Tawang offers its visitors to view the snow capped Himalayan Mountains, deep valleys, waterfalls, beautiful landscapes and hundred of lakes.

Itanagar

Located in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh is the hill resort of Itanagar. Itanagar is incredible and incomparable in natural beauty. The entire state of Arunachal Pradesh has been thrown open to tourism recently in 1998. Besides security it was done as an attempt to preserving the centuries old heritage of the tribal communities in the area. The virginal beauty of the state capital, Itanagar attracts several tourists from far and away.

Along

Along is located at an altitude of 300 m from the sea level. Sitting amidst abundant natural surroundings, Along in Arunachal Pradesh is a small town with beautiful villages. Along Arunachal Pradesh is a most ideal place to spend the hot summer seasons. The picturesque surroundings laced with brilliant plantations makes Along in Arunachal one of the most perfect health resorts of India. The places one can visit at Along are the Mithun and Jersey Cross Breeding Farm at Kamaki 25 kms away from Along.

Pasighat

Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh is the oldest town of Arunachal Pradesh established in 1911. Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh has been often called the 'gateway of the state of Arunachal Pradesh'. From Pasighat, there are numerous places of interest that can be visited in Arunachal Pradesh. Pasighat derives its name from the 'Pasis', a tribe of the area. With its breathtaking hillside and lush-green river valleys domesticated by a galaxy of tribes, the area is a tourist's delight and photographers paradise.

Ziro/Zero

Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh is located at an altitude of 5754 ft. (1,780m) from the sea level. This high town is almost a level valley enveloped on all sides by pine clad low stooping hills. Ziro is the land of Apatani tribals. Ziro is a small picturesque destination with Pine and Bamboo groves, villages, a craft centre and Tarin Fish Farm, which is located at a high altitude and also to see, is the indigenous method of rice cultivation.

Khonsa

Surrounded by the Himalayas, Khonsa, 3,000 ft high, is the district headquarters of Tirap District, Arunachal Pradesh. Khonsa borders Myanmar in the east and Assam in the south. It is a military area and a small outpost set up by the Koi-hai (militants) can be seen here. Khonsa is blessed with numerous rare species of orchids. White gibbon monkeys swinging from branch to branch, musk deer, red panda and mithun are the specialties.

Wildlife Sanctuaries

Namdapha National Park

Namdapha, a Tiger Reserve and National Park, a true wilderness and enchanting beauty of lush green vegetation, impenetrable pristine and virgin forests covered an area of 1985.23 square kilometers having diverse flora and fauna lies in the international border between India and Myanmar (Burma) within Changlang District in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in the northeast India. Namdapha National Park is located at a few kilometers away from Miao amidst misty blue hills along the turbulent Noa-Dihing river lies in the sprawling tropical rain forest. It was declared as Tiger Reserve by the Government in 1983.

Among the bird species, most notable are the White winged Wood Ducks, a rare and endangered species, the great Indian hornbills, jungle fowls and pheasants flop their noisy way through the jungle, and which harbours other colourful bird and animal species. The grandeur of the wet tropical rain forest is breeding ground for varieties of animals and birds which is remarkable and worth seeing. It is only park in the World to have the four Feline species of big cat namely the Tiger (Panthera Tigris), Leopard (Panthera Pardus), Snow Leopard (Panthera Uncia) and Clouded Leopard (Neofelis Nebulosa) and numbers of lesser cats. A number of primate species are seen in the park, such as Assamese macaque, pig-tailed macaque, stump-tailed macaque and number of the distinctive Hoolock Gibbons (Hylobates Hoolock), highly endangered and only 'ape' species found in India dwells in this impenetrable virgin forest.
